Studio Grow: Drop-in play for Berkeley-area preschoolers
Jun 6, 2010
What springs to mind with the enchanting words, “Story Time,” “Music Time,” and “Parachute Time”? No doubt it is the sparkling image of children, all of them having a blast and actively engaged. Studio Grow in Berkeley was created by educators whose goal is to encourage this level of participation and engagement in children, time and again. Why else would they offer Story Time, Music Time, and Parachute Time each weekday in their nifty little play space?
According to owners Tim Alley and Tom Limbert, “children have unlimited potential and can express themselves, share ideas and better understand their world through play.” And as they let their imaginations soar, sharing their discoveries and ideas with adults helps them to value discovery and social interaction all the more.
The Studio Grow environment was designed to facilitate this intrinsic desire to learn. Open and airy play spaces include a water room, art room, music room, running room, dark room, and courtyard. Each area is stocked with creative materials for hands-on play. Non-toxic, “Studio Grown” play dough can be found in the art room, instruments and guest musicians can be found in the music room, and all the pretend kitchenware a little chef could desire can be found in the house play area.
Parents and caretakers are encouraged to participate with the kids, who have the option to play as they feel comfortable, following independent or guided activities provided by the studio. Studio Grow is a great place to throw a birthday shindig, when use of all the play spaces are accessible to partygoers. Whether your kid enjoys tumbling, building, dancing, or dolls, they are sure to find plenty of things here to keep them occupied and curious about the workings of the world.
Activities and programs at Studio Grow are designed for the preschool-age child; there’s also an infant area to accommodate pre-walkers. Outside food is welcome, and food and drink is available for purchase. Family-owned and operated, Studio Grow has an additional location in Concord.
HelloSanFrancisco Tip: Discount admission is available with the purchase of a “Green Card,” for use anytime you want, a “Monthly Passport,” or a “Summer Passport.”
