17th Street Grille: Best Burgers in Butterfly Town
Jun 16, 2010
Located in “Butterfly Town, USA,” also known as Pacific Grove, the 17th Street Grille has numerous details highlighting the monarch butterfly, paying homage to the delicate creatures that migrate to the breeding sanctuary here each year. There’s a butterfly flag in the patio and butterflies painted on the dining room wall. Most people don’t come here for the décor, however, they come for the burgers, wraps and quesadillas, which the 17th Street Grille dubs as the “best in town.”
Situated in the city’s historic downtown area, the 17th Street Grille joins gift shops, clothing stores, a movie theater, and numerous local eateries on Lighthouse Avenue. The diner embodies the town’s casual, friendly aura; it’s a place where you can feel comfortable after a long day at the beach, with sand still in your hair. Owned and operated by a husband-and-wife team, 17th Street Grille is a place where both locals and visitors can feel at home.
On a warm day, the outdoor patio on the corner of 17th Street and Lighthouse Ave. is a great spot to people watch and enjoy the good weather along with your food. Animal-friendly eateries in general are not so common. Here, pets are welcome to join their families for a meal on the patio, and you’ll likely hear a poodle whining for some fries from underneath the neighboring table.
The menu includes a variety of burgers, from Classic and Jalapeno to Blue Pig and Grilled Mushroom. Wraps include Cajun, Spicy Thai, Greek Chicken, and Italian Pesto, and quesadillas can be doctored up with a variety of fillings. When you visit a town by the ocean, you often seek fresh seafood, and the menu here isn’t lacking in that regard, with Fish & Chips, Crab Cakes, Clam Chowder, Shrimp Tacos, and more to choose from.
Come in for lunch or dinner. There’s a large screen TV inside and during the later hours, a fire-pit and heaters outside.
HelloSanFrancisco Tip: New at 17th Street Grille — happy hour Monday through Friday, with half off on draft beers.
