Alameda Point Antiques & Collectibles Faire: First Sunday Treasure Hunting

Where can you find vintage buttons and baubles, doorknobs and dolls, and collections of all sorts of things you never expected to see in one place? Whether you’re a sculptor, a collector, or just someone on the look-out for a deal on patio furniture, you’ll find what you’re seeking and ten things you aren’t at the largest antiques and collectibles faire in Northern California.

This event has been happening for 11 years, growing from 250 booths in 1998 to over 800 booths in 2010. As many as 10,000 customers can roam between those booths on a given weekend, whether they’re seriously looking or just browsing for the fun of seeing the colorful varieties of original merchandise, all of which is at least 20 years old. It’s a great place to discover a vintage handbag, antique record player, signed poster print, handmade table, or something else you simply won’t find in your neighborhood Cost Plus.

Shows are held on the first Sunday of the month, with prices decreasing in increments of $5 as the day wears on. (Bona fide treasure hunters know the best finds disappear early.) Roam your way to the edge of the island just off the Posey Tube, where you’ll appreciate views of the Oakland waterfront and S.F. across the way. Alameda Point is located at the former Naval Air Station, where there’s plenty of space for vendors to spread out their wares.

HelloMetro Tip: If you find yourself there around lunch, cheap eats are aplenty. A section of the faire is dedicated to street food vendors.
